Sri Lanka A secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Hong Kong in the 7th match of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 tournament at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. A phenomenal display of spin bowling dismantled Hong Kong’s innings, setting up a routine, high-pace chase.
Innings 1: Hong Kong’s Batting Fails to Fire
- After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Sri Lanka A’s spin attack immediately capitalised on the slow conditions. Hong Kong’s batters struggled desperately for momentum, failing to breach the 120-run mark.
- The collapse was led by the wrist-spin duo, with Traveen Mathew claiming an impressive three wickets for 21 runs and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth being exceptionally economical, taking two wickets for only 11 runs.

Innings 2: Nuwanidu Fernando Leads the Blitz
- Chasing a target of 118, Sri Lanka A approached the task with urgency and aggression, aiming to finish quickly to boost their net run rate.
- Opener Nishan Madushka (35) provided the initial spark, but the chase was dominated by the explosive hitting of Nuwanidu Fernando.
- Fernando, batting at number four, remained unbeaten with a blistering 47 runs off just 27 deliveries, achieving a strike rate of 174.07. His innings included four fours and three sixes.
- He partnered effectively with Sahan Arachchige (14*) to cruise past the total in just 13.4 overs, securing the victory with 38 balls to spare.
