The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed that cricket icon Rohit Sharma will serve as the official Brand Ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The announcement, which took place during the release of the tournament schedule, links the format’s most decorated player with the event set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
A New Chapter for a T20 Legend
Rohit Sharma brings unparalleled experience to his new role. He is the only player to have participated in all nine previous editions of the T20 World Cup, beginning with India’s inaugural triumph in 2007.
His final appearance in the tournament was historic, as he led India to their second title in the 2024 edition, where he finished as the team’s leading run-scorer with 257 runs at an impressive strike rate of 156.70. Following that memorable victory over South Africa in the final, Rohit announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. Across his nine appearances, the former captain amassed a total of 1220 runs in 47 matches.
Rohit Welcomes the Opportunity
Following his appointment, Rohit expressed his delight at partnering with the tournament in a new capacity:
“It feels wonderful to have the tournament returning to India, and I am excited to be involved once again, this time serving as the Brand Ambassador. I extend my best wishes to every participating player and hope they create lasting memories while enjoying the great hospitality that India has to offer.”
ICC Chair Jay Shah confirmed the appointment, signaling the importance of having a figure of Rohit’s stature representing the global event. His association aims to inspire both fans and players as the T20 World Cup returns to the subcontinent.
