In a major tactical move, the Indian team management has withdrawn left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav from the remainder of the T20I series against Australia. The decision was made to immediately shift the spinner’s focus to red-ball cricket ahead of the crucial two-Test series against World Test Championship holders, South Africa.
Immediate Shift to India A
Kuldeep will promptly join the India A squad in Bengaluru to participate in the second four-day match against South Africa A, which begins on November 6th at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. This move is designed to ensure the spinner gains crucial match fitness and rhythm in the longer format, where his last significant outing was the Test series against the West Indies, where he claimed 12 wickets.
The main Test series against South Africa starts on November 14th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by the second Test in Guwahati on November 22nd.
Rishabh Pant Leads Strong Red-Ball Contingent
The India A squad for the second four-day match is packed with experienced international players also preparing for the Proteas series, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant.
Pant, who recently returned to active cricket following a foot injury, captained the side to a three-wicket win in the first four-day game, contributing a sensational 90 runs in the second innings.
The Test-focused squad also features:
- KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeepers)
- Frontline pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna
- Domestic stars Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal
