Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially roped in R Sridhar to lead the national team’s fielding development, with his contract running through the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
A highly experienced Level 3 certified coach from BCCI, Sridhar previously oversaw India’s fielding unit between 2014 and 2021. He also contributed as a specialist consultant with Afghanistan’s cricket team, helping refine their defensive and catching strategies. In his new role, he will work closely with Sri Lanka’s squad, enhancing agility, anticipation, and coordination, particularly ahead of tours to Pakistan and England, culminating in T20 World Cup preparations.
Speaking about his appointment, Sridhar said, “Sri Lankan players are naturally talented, fearless, and instinctive on the field. My focus will be on creating a culture where quick thinking, athletic movement, and fielding pride grow organically rather than imposing strict routines.”
Sridhar already has familiarity with the Sri Lankan system, having conducted a 10-day intensive fielding workshop at the National High Performance Centre earlier this year. He emphasized, “The essence of great fielding lies in players’ connection with the ball, their teammates, and the match situation. By simulating realistic game scenarios, we can build on Sri Lanka’s existing strengths—fast reflexes, safe hands, and bold intent.”
With Sridhar’s guidance, Sri Lanka aims to transform their fielding standards, adding sharper reflexes, smarter positioning, and higher consistency, setting the stage for a competitive showing at the T20 World Cup.
