Multan Sultans Submit Four Main Proposals to Develop Pakistan Super League Framework
Multan Sultans have presented a series of four proposals to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seeking to develop the overall administration and professionalism of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The action follows hot on the heels of franchise owner Ali Tareen dominating headlines after tendering his tongue-in-cheek apology to the PCB that caused widespread debate in Pakistan’s cricket community.
A Call for Professionalism and Transparency
A letter to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in a formal tone, Tareen called upon the board to initiate actions to make the PSL more organized, transparent, and professionally run. He declared that it was time to rebuild confidence between the franchises and the board and implement systems that would enable the PSL to reach its “true potential.”
Tareen raised the issues of ad hoc decision-making and a lack of professional control in league management. He suggested introducing institutional structures and accountability mechanisms to align the PSL with international sports administration practices.
The Four Core Proposals
The letter says, Multan Sultans set forth the following four major reforms:
Franchise Representation in Decision-Making
All franchises must have representation on PSL committees dealing with scheduling, marketing, recruitment, and tickets. This would mean that decisions are made after considering the inputs of all the participating teams.
Transparent Recruitment Process for PSL Officials
Tareen suggested a formal and merit-based process to appoint the important PSL personnel. He stressed that hiring should not be confined to PCB employees or former employees, but should be used to bring in experienced professionals from related fields.
Professional Management Structure
He demanded a clean structural chart with separate departments for operation, marketing, finances, player relations, and fan interaction — all headed by experienced experts.
Regular Information Exchange and Coordination
Tareen also suggested PCB-monthly meetings with franchises having set agendas to have clean communication, cohesion, and transparency in all league operations.
Ali Tareen has been a prominent voice in recent PSL debate. His satirical video apology to the PCB generated controversy across Pakistan’s cricket fraternity, attracting criticism as well as fans.
The timing is important because the PCB is in the process of reviewing Multan Sultans’ franchise ownership and examining the expansion of the PSL by two new teams. With these proposals, Tareen is seemingly positioning his franchise as a champion for structural reform in the league.
