The West Indies completed a decisive 3-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh, cruising to a five-wicket victory in the third T20I at the Chattogram Stadium. Despite a phenomenal, career-best performance by Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan, the West Indies middle-order, spearheaded by half-centuries from Roston Chase and Ackeem Auguste, proved too powerful.
Innings 1: Tanzid’s Heroic Stand
After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Bangladesh innings was overwhelmingly dominated by one man. Opener Tanzid Hasan took full advantage of an early dropped catch, launching a continuous attack against the West Indies bowling unit. He targeted Khary Pierre, Romario Shepherd, and Gudakesh Motie, battling for every run.
While Parvez Emon hit a quick six, the rest of the lineup struggled to offer any meaningful support. Wickets continued to fall regularly, with Litton Das hitting straight to a fielder and Shepherd claiming two wickets in two balls in the final over. Tanzid Hasan carried his bat deep into the innings, smashing a brilliant 89 off 62 balls, contributing more than half of the team’s total before they were all out for 151 on the final ball. Romario Shepherd (3/36) and Khary Pierre (2/23) led the collective effort with the ball.
Innings 2: Chase and Auguste Lead the Chase
The West Indies chase began slowly, crawling to just eight runs in the first three overs and even losing Alick Athanaze stumped. However, two batters who were given early lives made Bangladesh pay dearly:
- Amir Jangoo, who was dropped early, accelerated the scoring with three fours and a six off Taskin Ahmed.
- Roston Chase and Ackeem Auguste then seized control, applying themselves expertly to the conditions and steadily finding the boundary ropes.
The partnership sealed the game in spectacular fashion. Auguste went on a rampage against Rishad Hossain, striking three sixes in one over to extinguish Bangladesh’s last hopes. Both Chase and Auguste brought up their respective fifties before Rishad took both their wickets in quick succession, but the target was already within reach. Rovman Powell sealed the five-wicket win with 19 balls to spare.
