Australia’s national selectors have withdrawn batter Travis Head from the remaining T20 International fixtures against India, with the player immediately returning to domestic red-ball action. The strategic decision is part of a plan to fine-tune player workloads and sharpen skills ahead of the highly anticipated Ashes series against England, which begins later this month.
Head, who participated in the first three matches of the five-game T20I series, will now suit up for South Australia in the upcoming round of the Sheffield Shield, starting Monday.
Senior Players Return to Red-Ball Focus
Head is not the only star making an early switch to the longer format. Several senior international players are also transitioning their focus:
- Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood are all slated to feature for New South Wales in their crucial Shield match.
- Cameron Green is also expected to make a return to bowling for Western Australia against Queensland. His attempt to resume bowling duties following back surgery was delayed by side soreness prior to the recent ODI series against India.
Australia’s first Test match of the summer against England is scheduled to commence on November 21 in Perth. Meanwhile, the ongoing T20I series against India will wrap up later this week with the final two games played in Gold Coast and Brisbane.
