Cyprus secured a tense three-wicket victory over Bulgaria in the 5th match of the Cyprus Tri-Series today at the Happy Valley Ground in Episkopi. In a low-scoring thriller that went down to the penultimate over, Cyprus successfully chased a modest target set by Bulgaria, enhancing their position in the series standings.
Innings 1: Bulgaria Struggles to Set Competitive Target
After Cyprus captain Alexander Senn won the toss and elected to field, the home side’s bowlers put Bulgaria under immediate pressure. The Bulgarian innings struggled for momentum throughout, failing to use up their allotted overs and being bowled out for 123 runs in 19.4 overs.
The scoring effort was anchored by captain Chris Hristo Lakov, who top-scored with 42 runs off 47 deliveries, and Kushaal Krishnakumar who contributed a brisk 36 to give the innings some late impetus.
The wickets were shared by the Cypriot attack, with Waqar Ali leading the figures with an excellent four-wicket haul (4/15), well supported by Lovedeep Singh (2/16) and Arjun Shahi (2/34).
Innings 2: Cyprus Tail-End Steals the Win
Chasing 124 for the win, Cyprus suffered a spectacular collapse that almost cost them the match. Despite a strong start from the top order, the team slumped badly, losing three quick wickets for just one run at one stage, and seven wickets in total for 93 runs.
With the game hanging precariously, Taranjit Singh played a sensational match-winning cameo, smashing 20 runs off just 6 balls, including three fours and a six, to swing the momentum back. Alongside Sachithra Tharanga (7*), the tail managed to overcome the pressure and guide Cyprus to 124/7 in 18.3 overs, securing the narrow victory.
