India staged a commanding comeback in the five-match T20I series, defeating Australia by five wickets in the third match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The victory, sealed with nine deliveries to spare, squared the series at 1-1 and was a clear vindication of the three changes made to the visitors’ playing XI

Innings 1: Arshdeep’s Decisive Return

Having won the toss and elected to field, India’s decision was immediately rewarded by the returning Arshdeep Singh (3/35). The left-arm seamer dismantled Australia’s top order, removing the dangerous Travis Head and Josh Inglis cheaply in his first two overs.

Despite the early pressure, Australia mounted a fierce counterattack. Tim David came in at number four and smashed a blistering 74 off just 38 balls, and Marcus Stoinis added a composed 64 off 39—the pair scoring the vast majority of Australia’s runs. Though the hosts reached a competitive 186/6, the damage done by Arshdeep and the double-strike from Varun Chakaravarthy (2/33) prevented them from reaching a psychological 200-plus score.

Innings 2: Sundar Leads the Final Assault

Chasing 187, India’s batters adopted a shared responsibility approach. Abhishek Sharma gave a flying start (25 off 16) before falling to a fine catch by Bartlett off Nathan Ellis (3/36). Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s brief but dazzling 24 was cut short by Marcus Stoinis.

The innings was brilliantly finished by the third change player, Washington Sundar, making a surprise impact with the bat. Displaying pure hitting ability, Sundar launched a late assault, taking 16 runs off an over from Sean Abbott. His unbeaten, career-defining 49 off 23 deliveries, supported by Jitesh Sharma (22* off 13), ensured India successfully overhauled the target in the 19th over, handing Australia their first-ever T20I loss at the Bellerive Oval.
